Taking shape

A few in-progress chair 1.1 pics: Compound angle joinery on the mortiser; Cleaning up the bandsawn curve on the back legs. Ganging up the back legs with double sided tape & shaping together kept things consistent, and it's good practise cutting to your line on the bandsaw; Bent lamination; mitered double bridles coming together; pile of parts with joints fitted, ready for pre-finish and glue-ups.

Winding Up

Just as well summer finally came to a gruesome, abrupt end. All that glorious weather did nothing for shop productivity. Realising I needed to capitalise on monsoon season and gain some traction, I dragged a bunch of Elm slabs into the shop hoping that something will transpire. Lots of rough milling so far (with a fair share of time spent staring at the slabs planning the cuts). While the kitchen buffet/sideboard parts rest and acclimatise, I've started on chair #1.1 after refining the design and introducing some compound angled joinery.

Motion Pictures

Looks like the marketing department finally got off its ass. Perhaps they're shooting a little studio space think-piece? Actually a furniture making friend of mine Meredith Nicole was selected for a 5 minute interview clip & she needed a sweet looking shop to film in. done. Pretty cool.

Milling & Mortises

Pics of some 12/4 Black Walnut getting sliced up for a pantry door. Walnut for the frame, arbutus for the panels. and double 3/16 floating mortise & tenons. I like 3/16; easier to double up, pleasant to cut, tenons don't need to be super thick.
